2010-11 Strategic Project Grants Competition Results

NSERC awarded $54.9 million over three years to 122 applications in the 2010 Strategic Project Grants and New Media Initiative competition. The competition attracted a record  number of applications (547 in total), dropping the success rate to 22 percent. The average grant is $150,600 per year. The following target areas, related to the science and technology priorities of the federal government, received Inc.reased funding: Advanced Communications and Management of Information, Healthy Environment and Ecosystems, Sustainable Energy Systems, and Competitive Manufacturing.

Among the awards are six collaborative projects with researchers in France, as a result of the recent Memorandum of Understanding with l’Agence nationale de la recherche; and three projects with researchers from Taiwan, as a result of a similar agreement with their National Science Council. These international projects competed on the same basis as the national projects within their countries. Each agency will fund the research activities of its own researchers.
